However, if you check with netstat first if the port is available before attempting to bind the port there can be an race condition if some other process binds the port between the time where netstat was executed and when python tries to bind the port.

I was gonna buy a cheap desktop and load Ubuntu server on it They all work on my local machine flawlessly, but the last few nights I have been unsuccessful at deploying them on pythonanywhere.

That seems like an error I would get if my virtualenv wasn't activated. Have you set up virtual env in your webapp? Go to the webapps tab and make sure your virtual env is set properly. I am using the wrapper I now call workon virtualenv to activate it. I really am stumped. Unfortunately it definitely is a package hahahah I double checked virtualenv and it looks fine. BTW I deleted the old webapp hours ago, and redid everything in 3.
Do you have the twilio package installed? Try going back into your virtual env with workon command in a console and try importing twilo from twilio. If the error occurs, then you may have to install twilio inside your virtualenv. EDIT: Pythonanywhere's batteries included has an old version of twilio 5.

That's what we have the web apps tab for. In fact on the web, I have a Something went wrong :- page, that is why I am trying to debug on the console. I am also having the same problem, but there are no errors listed in my error log. I get this same socket error when I run my app in the console, I am also using app.

You can't run your app in the console. That's what web apps are for. If you get a "Something went wrong" page, you'll either have an exception in your error log or in your server log unless your app messes with logging in some way and prevents the message from getting to the log.

Possible solution - add a retry when this error is raised. This isn't the prettiest solution, as it means we're punting on understanding what exactly is happening, but I predict adding a retry up to 3?
The v6 one gets the OS assigned port and the v4 one then fails to bind with "Address already in use". So far, all builds have been passing. This work-around is looking good, and seeing how we don't officially support IPv6 yet, I'm ok with going forward with it in the morning.
